2017 $2 Coloured UNC – Lest We Forget Mosaic commemorates Anzac Day and honours Australia’s participation in the First World War, paying tribute to all who have served the nation in times of conflict.
Commonly referred to as the “Mosaic” $2 coin, the reverse design draws inspiration from the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial. It reflects the intricate domed ceiling mosaic, incorporating rich symbolism including the wattle wreath representing the fallen and a continuous chain symbolising the journey beyond life.
The original mosaic was created by artist Napier Waller, comprising over six million tesserae tiles and recognised as one of the largest mosaic works in the world. These elements are echoed in the coin through its distinctive hues of blue, green, and gold.
With a mintage of 3,980,000 coins, this release sits below typical annual $2 mintages, making it a notable issue within Australia’s coloured commemorative series.
These coins have been sourced as loose coins and carefully selected in Uncirculated (UNC) condition, then housed in a NextGen Collectors Coin Capsule for protection and presentation.
