2016 $2 UNC – Decimal Changeover Crown was released by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Australia’s transition to decimal currency, which took place on 14 February 1966.
As part of the Changeover series, this coin pays tribute to Australia’s pre-decimal coinage by featuring a depiction of the historic Crown design, originally issued in 1937 and 1938. Uniquely, this release differs from standard $2 coins, with the commemorative design appearing on the obverse, while the reverse retains the traditional Aboriginal Elder design.
These coins have been sourced as loose coins from circulation or security bags and carefully selected in Uncirculated (UNC) condition, then housed in a NextGen Collectors Coin Capsule for protection and display.
With a total mintage of 2,981,888 coins, this issue represents an important milestone in Australia’s numismatic history.
